Good Morning!
Let’s focus our day by spending some time with Jesus before it begins.
WORSHIP. Pick a song from one of our Spotify Playlists and let it play in the background.
THANK. Write down 3-5 things you’re thankful for in the last 24 hours.
READ. Our Scripture Focus is Leviticus 20:26. Try memorizing it during this study!
Today’s reading is from Leviticus 4 - Leviticus 6:7 (Going Deeper: Romans 8:1-4)
THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave…
As we get started reading this book of God’s direction for life as God intended, it’s helpful to keep a few things in mind. We don’t approach Old Testament Law the same way we might read Jesus’ teachings or the story of the early church in the New Testament. This is much earlier in the story. Written to different people, at a different time, in a different context. So, how can we read and understand Leviticus? By remembering that these “rules” (or directions!) were written for God’s glory and Israel’s good. Life would be both different AND better if Israel lived out God’s law. Because these ancient societies did not have many of the systems and institutions we do now (hospitals, courts, prisons, etc), God laid a foundation for a functional society that would stand in stark contrast to neighboring peoples. God also spoke into culture as it existed then - as He does today. It’s important to remember that not everything that is happening in the world during any period is part of God’s original intention and design (such as slavery) - and yet God addresses them. Why? Because God’s revelation is gradual. We benefit from the relationship and experience of those who went before us. Just as any relationship grows as you get to know each other through increased “revelation” of who you are, God was beginning to reveal His character in this relationship - which would be fully revealed in Jesus thousands of years later. Jesus would change our relationship with both God and the law once and for all.
LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method. Ask…
S: What does this passage say about God, and what does it say about me?
O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
PRAY. Pray for yourself, a family member, a lifegroup/church friend, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations. Pick one each day or pray through them all every day.
SHARE. Stay focused with a friend! Invite them to text “FOCUS” to (586) 200-6277.
Stay focused on Jesus today, and make it a great one!
