LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method.
S: What does this passage say about God, and what does it say about me?
O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
A THOUGHT FROM PASTOR DAVE
I love Christmas lights. One of my favorite traditions is taking the long way home on Christmas Eve to drive around and look at them. Every once in a while, you come across a home you just need to slow down to really look at and take it all in. Christmas lights are always there, but it’s only in contrast to the dark that they can be seen and only when we slow down can they be appreciated.
I wonder what it looked like when God spoke to Moses in a burning bush. This lit up tree caught Moses’ attention and moved him to stop, go over, and look at this remarkable sight. And in that moment, the mundane became more. The ordinary became extraordinary. The dirt he stood on, divine. Like the lights that light up the trees, God’s speaks in the mundane, the ordinary. God speaks at all times, in all places. And God’s voice brings light to our darkness. This Advent season, slow down. Pay attention. Make yourself available. And then, listen. The God who spoke to Moses is still speaking today.
