Every once in a while, I get a notification on my iPhone about an upgrade to my operating system being available. Usually, it’s because the old system has bugs, imperfections, lacks in beauty or appeal, or could use improved functionality in some way. It’s not that you won’t be able to still run on the old operating system - it’s that (eventually, anyway) you won’t want to. The new system is better. More beautiful, functional, complete. In Hebrews 8, the sacrificial “operating” system is described as a “shadow” of the heavenly things. It’s not that it was bad - it worked. But it was incomplete. In Jesus, there’s a massive operating system upgrade. In fact, you’ll never need another one. Because this one is superior. He has made a better covenant - which is a word that simply means “promise of future relationship.” Previously, the covenantal operating system was based on “if/then” statements. In Jesus, we’ve been given the invitation to upgrade to a “because God” system. This morning, He’s inviting you to operate in this new, beautiful, complete, relational covenant with Him.

O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
PRAY. Pray for yourself, a family member, a lifegroup/church friend, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations. Pick one each day or pray through them all every day.
