THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave…
Yesterday, we read that our world is sinful and broken because of our inability to love others apart from receiving God’s love and loving Him first. If you ask most people what it looks like to “love God,” they might mention something to the effect of doing the right things and not doing the wrong things. Today’s question comes from this place. What do I have to DO to have eternal life? How can I be a “good person?” Jesus’ question strikes at the heart of the issue. There is a difference between doing good and being good. We are not what we do. If we want to be judged as good based on the good we do, we’ll have to be perfect. Thank God for the new system (covenant) of grace. Jesus says there is only one who IS good. And if we remember the creation story, everything our good God makes IS good. Jesus said that we need to be born again, made new, or “re-created” in Him. When we are, we are “God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.” Our doing comes from our being, not the other way around. May God’s grace make you new again in Jesus today, and may you live and love from that place.
LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method. Ask…
S: What does this passage say about God, and what does it say about me?
O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
PRAY. Pray for yourself, a family member, a lifegroup/church friend, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations. Pick one each day or pray through them all every day.
