THINK. A Thought from Jessica Glenn
It's been a few days since Resurrection Sunday but I'm still celebrating and in wonder at the power of Jesus' victory over sin, death, and hell. His return to life also left his disciples reeling; some even were in such shock and doubt that they didn't take the other disciples' words as truth and did not believe until they had seen for themselves. I appreciate the Holy Spirit's attention to detail in noting in the Gospels that Jesus had indeed risen in glorified human form as our living hope as he was in fact hungry and wanted to eat a meal! The disciples saw the risen Lord and would testify empowered by the Holy Spirit for the rest of their lives. All of the disciples would indeed give their lives and were martyred for their belief in Jesus - some in horrendous ways, with the exception of one - John who died a natural death on the island of Patmos where he was exiled to live the remainder of his life. They had seen the resurrected Lord, walked, talked, ate and were encouraged by the fulfillment of prophecies that were given long long ago. And the church of God that would touch and impact every nation, tribe, languate and tongue to this day was birthed from this event and empowerment to come. As Jesus is revealing Himself to His disciples, He speaks a blessing for us. He knows that many more will come to believe in Him yet will never have seen him in physical form or experienced what the disciples did in knowing Jesus before and after His resurrection. We believe and accept this truth by faith - hope placed in something/someone that we have not seen with our tangible eye yet we love and believe in deeply. The fulfillment of the prophecies given long long ago of a savior who could come and bear our sin and punishment give us this new birth into a living hope is a confirmation for us that our faith is not in vain. This is our assurance of heaven and an eternal salvation of our souls that will never fade away being kept and guarded by God Himself for us. The pain and suffering we endure here on earth is not easy. It doesn't always make sense and at times our questions as to why aren't always answered. Yet, as we continue to believe and love Him through these trials, our faith is more pure and focused on the fact that our hope in something beyond the grave and beyond this physical life is not in fact dead but is alive in the person of Jesus. Hope has a name - that name is Jesus.
