Good Morning!
Let’s focus our day by spending some time with Jesus before it begins.
WORSHIP FOCUS | 5-15 Minutes
Worship can be as simple as thanking God for who He is & what He does. (Psalm 100:4)
1. Start out by writing or saying out loud 3-5 things you’re thankful for.
2. Play or sing some worship music you love, or use this Christmas Worship Playlist.
SCRIPTURE FOCUS | 5-15 Minutes
Pray a simple prayer before reading, asking the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth. (John 14:26)
Today’s reading is from Leviticus 9:1-7, Leviticus 16:29-34, Hebrews 4:14-16, Hebrews 5:1-10 & Hebrews 10:11-14
Highlight verses that capture your attention, and ask three simple questions as you read…
S = Say. What is the main point? What does it teach about God (Jesus) & yourself?
O = Obey. What can you apply (practice) from this passage today?
S = Share. Who can you share what you’re learning with today?
One of the best ways to learn more about the Bible is by discussing it with others.
Work through this week’s Discussion Guide and meet up with a Paradox Lifegroup.
A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
Christmas. Unfortunately, it has become the season of debt for many. Do we ever think about what happens when we use a credit card or a debit card to pay? (Probably not, otherwise we might not do it quite so often…) The major difference is this: a debit card requires you to have money in the bank and uses it to pay your debt. Credit, on the other hand, is given (More like borrowed, but hang with me today). Scripture says that we all have a debt. We’ve grabbed what was not rightfully ours in life in ways we shouldn’t have - otherwise known as sin. But the bill always comes due. Many of us attempt to pay our debt with a spiritual debit card - trying to deposit enough “good stuff” to pay the bill on our own. The problem is, there’s never enough. Our goodness deposits just can’t seem to keep up with the sin withdrawals… and so our account keeps running in the red. For years, people would operate in a religious system of sacrificial debits - regularly making a “deposit” (sacrifice) to cover their bill (sin). Enter the credit card. A credit card is a bank or other institution that steps in and offers to cover the bill you don’t have money to pay yourself with THEIR money - or credit. (The catch being, of course, that you’ll need to pay it back, and likely with interest.) Jesus enters into a system of debits and offers us credit instead. There’s no way we can ever pay our own bill. We can’t deposit enough. Jesus, our Great High Priest, steps in to make atonement (aka pay the bill.) Galatians 3:5-7 says that faith covers our debt and “credits” Jesus’ righteousness to our account. And here’s the most beautiful thing of all - Jesus’ credit is unlimited. So your debt is always paid in full. No hidden charges. No late fees. No interest. Great High Priest, Come! - Dave Kubiak
