John 8:12
Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.”
Advent comes from the Latin word meaning “coming” or “arrival”. Since the fourth century, Christians have observed Advent to remember Jesus’ birth and anticipate His return. Encompassing the 4 Sundays before Christmas, Advent is a season to contemplate our need for Jesus, celebrate His coming and rejoice in the promise of His return. Contemplation is the practice of slowing down, repenting of sin, and resting in God’s faithfulness. Celebration is the practice of actively remembering and enjoying God in our lives. The discipline of celebration cultivates joy as we acknowledge and rejoice in the beauty, goodness, and truth that comes from God.
Read John 3:1-21
“I don’t see it.” Have you ever looked at a piece of art, or had a conversation, or looked at another person’s choice or way of doing things and said that? It’s hard to see in the dark - and sometimes we need to look differently in order to see. This Advent season, pray that Jesus would open your eyes to see God, yourself, others, and the world in light of who Jesus is. May you see the kingdom of God all around you as you contemplate and celebrate Jesus, the light of the world.
