THINK. A Thought from Gwyn Kubiak
The story of Ruth and Boaz is marked with so much loss. Naomi lost her husband and sons, and Ruth lost her husband. After Naomi's husband died, in that time and place, her life was basically considered done. She was too old for someone to consider marrying her and past the time to have more children. So to her society, she didn't have any worth. Ruth was still young enough when her husband died that she could've remarried and had children - but she chose to stay with Naomi. She saw her worth. She chose, essentially, for her life to be insignificant in the sight of others, to remain loyal to Naomi. Boaz protected Ruth and gave her a job - he saw her heart with God's eyes. When Boaz married Ruth, it meant he was also welcoming Naomi into his family. Boaz could have easily chosen not to marry Ruth, but he chose to marry her; providing for both her and her mother in law. Both Boaz and Ruth show the kindness and faithfulness of Jesus to us, even in brokenness. They show that he uses death and brings life out of it. They show us how he never leaves us, always provides and cares for us. In what way is Jesus inviting you to show his kindness and care to someone else today?
