Growing up, no one wanted to be “different” or stand out. Even when things started to change in high school, when people started experimenting with different identities and it was encouraged to be “yourself,” most people chose to be “unique” in ways similar to others. It can be hard to go your own way. As Christians, we don’t have a choice. We follow Jesus - a counter-cultural, revolutionary, literally out of this world teacher. And in doing so, our identity and home makes us different. Non-conformists. Strangers. Foreigners. Aliens. Our beliefs, perspectives, values, choices, and lifestyle are different by design. Thank God we don’t have to go it alone. There is comfort, confidence, encouragement and support in having a family, a tribe. The Church is different together. In Christ, the people of the Church are holy, set apart for a purpose. We are called to pursue lives of holiness as a changed people. It may feel at times that you’re going your own way. But Thank God you don’t have to go alone.
LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method. Ask…
S: What does this passage say about God, and what does it say about me?
O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
PRAY. Pray for yourself, a family member, a lifegroup/church friend, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations. Pick one each day or pray through them all every day.
