The Church is the people of God, established by Jesus as a unified, holy community living in response to the gospel and awaiting Christ’s return. Everything about the Church, every practice, and every person that is a part of it, is rooted in this foundational truth. Jesus is the founder. The author. The foundation. The OG. The Church was established by Jesus, is sustained by Jesus, and rests on Him as its foundation. The Church doesn’t always get it right. It is made up of broken, imperfect people. However, Jesus loves the Church. He calls us His “bride.” He died for the Church. The Church was His idea - His dream. And Jesus is IN the Church. Being a part of Jesus means being a part of the Church, and being a part of the Church means we get to experience Jesus in very real ways that simply aren’t possible apart from the Church. Thank God for the Church today - imperfect as we may be. When we’re tempted to think about following Jesus apart from the Church, recall these foundational truths.
LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method. Ask…
S: What does this passage say about God, and what does it say about me?
O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
PRAY. Pray for yourself, a family member, a lifegroup/church friend, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations. Pick one each day or pray through them all every day.
