THINK. A Thought from Gwyn Kubiak
As I was reading, I will be honest that at first, I was tempted to think that I am exempt from most of these passages, because I can look at the world around me and see that there are others who are "worse" than me. I felt an invitation from Jesus to not think about others, but to try to find myself in these passages - not so that I could feel bad about myself, but so that I could allow him to "search my heart" and "see if there is any offensive way in me." (Psalm 139) We can see from the passages that God takes all sin seriously - which can feel kind of uncomfortable. But there's good news! When I repent and turn to Jesus.... "His goodness and loving kindness appears...and saves us... according to his own mercy. So I'm going to offer you the same invitation he offered me. Allow him to search your heart. Read through the scriptures for today and notice if there's anything listed that God puts on your heart. For example - are there ways that I have entered into foolish controversies? In what ways have I not devoted myself to good works? Are there ways I have caused division? Have I put things before God in my life? Have I stood by while others were oppressed (even if I wasn't the oppressor?) Have I spoken evil of others? etc. Then, as he reveals things to you- turn to him, repent, and receive his goodness and loving kindness.
