Today’s reading is from 2 Timothy 3:1-13 (Go Deeper: John 15:18-21 & Romans 8:31-39)
THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave…
Know this: hard times will come. The hard times spoken of today seem to be living out the teaching of Scripture in a world/culture and among people who are hostile to it. What makes it even harder is when there are some who seem to hold a “form of godliness” and love learning… but never seem to come to a knowledge of the truth. Progress in this life and God’s kingdom doesn’t come apart from a knowledge of the truth. How can we make it through such hard times? Check out verse 10 - by following the teachings of Jesus. But this teaching isn’t just about head knowledge. Because teaching must be lived out in real life, we need teachers who are living it out in real life. Follow their conduct - do what they do. Follow their purpose - why they do what they do. Follow their faith - their certainty about what they’re doing. Follow their patience - don’t expect results too soon. Follow their love - how they treat others (especially the “least of these” and their enemies.) And finally, follow their endurance. Don’t fall away or quit when things get hard. Even Jesus was persecuted and suffered… and He is who we follow.
LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method. Ask…
S: What does this passage say about God, and what does it say about me?
O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
PRAY. Pray for yourself, a family member, a lifegroup/church friend, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations. Pick one each day or pray through them all every day.
