Any builder will tell you that in order for the product to come out properly, you need to follow the blueprint - exactly. Make a measurement or cut that’s too short, and the results can be far less than you had hoped. Cut a corner and everything else is affected. You can even do more than necessary - a friend of mine once said “It’s just got to work - it’s not going to the moon.” If you’re nodding your head in agreement, today’s reading is a dream. God tells His people, in great detail, exactly how to build the temple that will be the place to worship Him. But their worship would start long before the Sunday service, and would go far beyond the measured walls. When it comes to worshipping God, God tells us how to worship Him! And God is after much more than an hour on Sunday - God wants obedience. Our heart. We’ll all fall short. Worship can be receiving God’s forgiveness and grace. We’ll be tempted to cut corners. God gives us wisdom to know what to do and the strength to do it. We may even try too hard and take on too much in an effort to please God or others. But if God didn’t say it, it isn’t worship! Worship is our response to what God has done and what God has said. Because we’re thankful for His deliverance and we love Him more than any other “god,” we listen to obey every word, with our whole life. You are God’s temple. Jesus is the cornerstone. Build your life on Him.
