Have you ever chosen a piece of fruit that looks perfect on the outside, only to cut into it to find the inside is less than appealing? We have a tendency to think that if things look good on the outside, they are good on the inside. If a business, church, relationship, purchase, etc looks good, it must be good. Put another way, we assume that God’s blessing looks like success. But God doesn’t see as we see. We look on the outside - God looks on the heart. Tyre had success, wealth, beauty, respect, and more. With all these things came pride. It’s natural to want the credit for the good we’ve done but not necessarily the blame for our wrongs. In their sin, the people of Judah cried “Unfair!” when it came to the blame (judgment) for their sin. Pride, on the other hand, wants the credit. While humility says, “God gave it” and worships Him in response, pride says, “We did it” and forgets Him in response. Success is not an indicator of right standing with good. Don’t assume things are '“all good” because they look that way on the outside. Today, ask God to see with His eyes. Take a look on the inside - is their pride? Vanity? Unthankfulness? Selfishness? Lust? Pray Psalm 139:23 & Psalm 51:10 - Search me, O God. Know my heart. Create in me a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within me.
