THINK. A Thought from Renee Richter…
As I read this very long list of names and families, I was reminded of the times in scripture when the Lord commanded the people to make a memorial or the leaders made memorials to mark God’s provision. These memorials reminded anyone passing by that God is faithful to His people. I was also reminded of the memorials we make now. I bet you have a photo wall in your house, at least a photo album, or many pictures saved on your phone to remember special times and events spent with those you care about and love. These are memorials of our loved ones and times spent with them. These chapters are inspired by the Holy Spirit and penned by men. In these chapters, we read a memorial written by God of His faithfulness to the Israelites and the fulfillment of His promise to provide a Promised Land for them. We don’t have to be traveling through Israel to find this memorial. We just have to pick the Bible up and read how God keeps His promises to His people. We, too, are His people, and this passage and those like it help us to hang onto the hope of His faithfulness. But let’s not forget about that photo wall we mentioned earlier. The love of God is described as wide, long, deep, and high; nothing can separate us from it. This list of names is one of God’s photo walls. He loves His people. He loved these people so much that he named them all individually. He intentionally lists each firstborn of each generation. And did you catch as you were reading some were faithful to Him, and some were not? His love for them and His love for us is not based on our faithfulness to Him. Nothing can measure or separate us from the love of God. This immeasurable love drives Him to the faithfulness we read about and cling to in our time of need.

A = Ask. Ask God to come and speak to you. Open up your heart to Him as your heavenly Father.
Y = Yield. We want to yield our lives to the words we have prayed and commit to follow Jesus’s way.
Using the 21 Day Guide (starting March 2), pray Jesus, I surrender __________ to you today and trust in you.
