Good Morning!
Let’s focus our day by spending some time with Jesus before it begins.
ENTER. Write down or say out loud 3-5 things you’re thankful for from the last 24 hours. (Psalm 100:4)
Pick a song from one of our Spotify Playlists and let it play in the background.
FOCUS. Breathe in & pray, Jesus I come to you. Pause & hold. Breathe out & pray, You give me rest. Repeat.
READ.
Our Scripture Focus is Matthew 11:28. Try memorizing it during this study!
Today’s reading is from Deuteronomy 5:12-15, Luke 13:10-17, John 9 & Colossians 2:8-10 & 14-17
THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave…
Be careful to remember. That’s how the commandment in Deuteronomy starts. So much of keeping and observing the Sabbath has to do with remembering - but what is it that God wants us to remember? For the Israelites, it was that they once were slaves, but now they’re free. The Sabbath reminds us of who (or whose) we really are. You are not a commodity. Your value is not your net worth. You’re more valuable than what you produce. You are not your abilities, or disabilities. You are not your past. All of these weigh down and hold back. Colossians 2:14-15 is beautiful - read them again. Jesus set you free. The old is gone - whatever it is. You’re free from striving, performing, and producing. You’re free from guilt, shame, and your past. Sabbath is a reminder that you’re not what you do or what you’ve done. We trust in and are defined by what Jesus has done. Throughout the day, whenever you find your thoughts and emotions moving from a place of rest, remind yourself (Stop and talk to yourself if you have to!) that you’ve been set free from whatever is “taking you captive” in that moment. If Jesus has set you free, you’re free… so live free.
ASK. After each day’s reading, ask the following SOS Questions and write down your thoughts.
What does it (S) say? What is the main point? What does it teach you about God (Jesus), people, or yourself?
What can I (O) obey? What can you apply (practice) from this passage today?
What truth can I (S) share? Who can you share what you’re learning with today?
PRAY. Pray the Lord’s Prayer or use one of the other resources at paradoxchurch.com/pray to guide you.
TALK. That was our take on today’s reading - what’s yours? Share thoughts and ask questions in the forum.
SHARE. Stay focused with a friend! Invite them to text “FOCUS” to (586) 200-6277.
