Good Morning!
Let’s focus our day by spending some time with Jesus before it begins.
If you’re new to the Daily Focus, read this first.
WORSHIP FOCUS | 5-15 Minutes
Worship can be as simple as thanking God for who He is & what He does. (Psalm 100:4)
1. Start out by writing or saying out loud 3-5 things you’re thankful for.
2. Play or sing some worship music you love, or use one from Paradox on Spotify.
SCRIPTURE FOCUS | 5-15 Minutes
Pray a simple prayer before reading, asking the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth. (John 14:26)
Today’s reading is from John 13:12-17 & 34-35, Philippians 1:27, 1 John 4:7-12, 2 Corinthians 2:16, 1 Peter 3:8-12 & 1 Corinthians 13
Highlight verses that capture your attention, and ask three simple questions as you read…
S = Say. What is the main point? What does it teach about God (Jesus) & yourself?
O = Obey. What can you apply (practice) from this passage today?
S = Share. Who can you share what you’re learning with today?
A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
There are plenty of days anymore where I say I just feel so… old! The past month, we’ve been studying the new life available to us in Jesus, who makes all things new. But there are still those days where I’m not feeling “new” but “old.” Tired. Worn out. Exhausted. Sore. Like I just don’t have much to give to anyone. Days when you just want to completely unplug from everyone and everything. When I'm feeling “old,” I have a tendency to go into self-preservation mode. I know I’m not alone. I don’t have the energy for (fill in the blank), so I opt for self-care. Something that might make me feel like a new person. And yet Jesus gives us a “new” command in John 13:34 - to love others. 1 John 4:9 says that God sent His Son Jesus so that we might LIVE through Him. Live a full, abundant, NEW life in Him. And that life is actually accessed by loving others. God gave of Himself in love so that we might live. And “if God loved us in this way, we also much love one another.” (v11). Great. So you’re saying when I’m feeling un-loved and un-lovely I need to try to do more to love others? Not quite. Remember, we love because He first loved us. So if you’re running on empty today, make sure you receive love and life from God first (you’re off to a great start!), that way you’ll have some to give away. It’s God’s love that brings life - receive it and give it away today… you’ll find you never run out. - Dave Kubiak
