Good Morning!
Let’s focus our day by spending some time with Jesus before it begins.
THANK. Write down 3-5 things you’re thankful for from the last 24 hours.
Pick a song from one of our Spotify Playlists and let it play in the background.
PRAY. What is stressful or challenging as you look ahead at this day? Write it down and talk w/ God about it.
READ. Our Scripture Focus is Matthew 9:35-36. Try memorizing it during this study!
Today’s reading is from Luke 3:1-22, Mark 1:1-8, Matthew 3:13-16 & Luke 4:1-13
THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave…
Temptation. It’s a common theme running through each of today’s reading - and a common theme running through every one of our lives. Let’s start with John the Baptizer. He had built up a following. People were looking to him. Expecting. Wondering. Was John God’s “chosen one?” What I love about John is that his life wasn’t about Him. Every word, every crazy action… it all pointed to Jesus. How many of us, when people look to us, resist the temptation to accept praise and build our own following or reputation? We’re often tempted to define ourselves by the good things we’ve done. But God was pleased with Jesus before he had preached a single sermon, healed a single person, or cast out a single demon. Baptism is our way of entering into God’s pleasure in Jesus - not our own good works. When we’re baptized, God says “You are my beloved son/daughter; with you I am well-pleased” because He said that about Jesus, and you are in Him! But life goes on. We move on from those first moments. It’s important to realize that even Jesus was tempted. We’ll all face temptation, and it’s not wrong to be tempted! However, Jesus overcame His temptation by wanting God more than anything, committing to serve Him only, and trusting Him with His life. Is there a temptation you’re facing today? Talk with Jesus about it and remember, God loves you just as you are, not as you should be. Love Him. Serve Him. Trust Him, and Obey Him.
ASK. Throughout this study, we’ll be practicing Discovery Bible Study (DBS) together. After each day’s reading, ask the following questions and write down your thoughts.
What is the main point of this passage?
What does it teach you about God (Jesus)?
What does it show you about people, or yourself?
What can you apply (practice) from this passage today?
Who can you share this with today?
How did you do practicing and sharing what you learned yesterday?
PRAY (AGAIN). Pray for a family member, a lifegroup/church friend, someone who came to mind, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations. Pick one each day or pray through them all every day.
TALK. That was our take on today’s reading - what’s yours? Share thoughts and ask questions in the forum.
SHARE. Stay focused with a friend! Invite them to text “FOCUS” to (586) 200-6277.
Stay focused on Jesus today, and make it a great one!
